The scorecards draw on quantitative and qualitative inputs across seven Critical Success Factors (CSFs) to identify risks and sustainability challenges facing each region. The CSFs are derived from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The resulting ratings for each CSF provide a baseline risk assessment from which opportunities are offered to improve understanding of risks, to incorporate sustainability into tourism operations and to encourage responsible visitor behavior.
